What is the Hesperia Heat All-Star and Select Program?
The All-Star/Select program is an extension of the Core program that provides an opportunity for players to improve their skills in a more competitive environment. Check out the Player Pathways policy for additional information about the competitive program offerings. The All-Star program is based around the All-Star tournament held in Lancaster in January/February 2025. This is typically the first tournament that many Select teams participate in. After this tournament, the team volunteers and players will determine if they want to continue into the Select program. The All-Star program is $60 and includes a new uniform and the tournament.
The Select program is a tournament-based season running from January/February 2025 - July 2025. A high level of commitment is expected from the coaches, players and the parents. Select is for motivated and enthusiastic players. For the good of the team, a player must regularly attend practices and games.
Players participating in the Fall 2024 season in the 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions are eligible to tryout for the team (must have participated in half the games for which they were eligible). Players who are interested must submit a registration for the All-Star Program 2024-2025 through the system before tryouts. An email announcement will be provided to the Region families of the appropriate divisions with information about team formation and tryouts. The coaches assess the players during the season to see how well they perform during a game, their teamwork, and sportsmanship. There may also be tryouts conducted to help select the players that will form the most cohesive team able to compete at the Select level. The teams are formed in late November, with practices starting in December.
The participation for the Select program normally involves 1-2 tournaments per month. The cost for a typical Select tournament season is $700-$900. The season will be paid for in payments through the system and final cost will depend on specific tournament fees. The Select season cost may be offset by fundraising opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria for the All-Star/Select Season
The player must participate in at least half the games for which they were eligible in the Fall 2024 Season. Rained-out games are included as games played, and players must meet regional playing time guidelines (currently half of each fall game). Players are expected to attend regularly scheduled practices. Exceptions to the eligibility requirements above may be allowed on a case-by-case basis with approval of the Select Committee.
